How we get our data
ہمارا ڈیٹا کہاں سے آتا ہےEvery number on Mehngai Meter comes from a named source, on a fixed schedule. Here is exactly where, how often, and how we calculate changes.
Petrol & diesel prices
Fuel prices →- Source
- Pakistan State Oil (PSO) published pump prices — Premier Euro 5 (petrol) and Hi-Cetane Diesel Euro 5 (high-speed diesel). These follow OGRA's official notifications.
- How often we check
- Twice a day, at 8 pm and midnight Pakistan time.
- When a record is saved
- Only when the price actually changes, so each row in our history is a real price revision.
- How often prices change
- Since 17 July 2026 OGRA revises petrol and diesel prices daily, based on a 7-day average of international prices. Before that, revisions were fortnightly.
- Change shown
- Today's price versus the previous price, in rupees per litre and per cent.
Historical yearly petrol prices before 2022 (on Petrol price history) are indicative annual levels compiled from OGRA notifications, PBS and SBP publications — prices changed within each year.
Dollar rate (USD to PKR)
Dollar rate →- Source
- ExchangeRate-API market rate; Yahoo Finance (USDPKR=X) as a fallback if it is unavailable.
- How often we check
- Every hour.
- Change shown
- Versus the latest reading at least 24 hours earlier. A rise means the rupee weakened.
- Caveat
- This is a market mid-rate. Open-market (kerb) and individual bank rates can differ by a rupee or two.
Crude oil (Brent & WTI)
Crude oil →- Source
- Yahoo Finance front-month futures — ICE Brent (BZ=F) and NYMEX WTI (CL=F). Alpha Vantage daily Brent/WTI as a fallback.
- How often we check
- Every 15 minutes. Timestamps are shown in UTC because these are global prices.
- Change shown
- 24h: versus the latest reading at least 24 hours earlier. Daily tables use the last reading of each UTC day.
- Conversions
- Per litre = price per barrel ÷ 158.987 (litres in a barrel). Rupees per barrel = USD price × the current USD/PKR rate.
- Data quality
- Readings that are missing or not a valid number are discarded, never stored or shown.
Estimates & analysis
“Why it changed.”For each fuel price change we compare the crude oil price and the USD/PKR rate between the two dates, alongside the petroleum levy. This shows which inputs moved; it is our analysis, not OGRA's official cost breakdown.
Formula-based “expected” price. The price-gap card and fuel calculator estimate a price from crude oil (converted to rupees per litre), a margin for refining and distribution, and the petroleum levy. It is a simplified model for context, not an official price.
Inflation and salary tools.Use Pakistan's Consumer Price Index from the World Bank (indicator FP.CPI.TOTL), refreshed monthly, and FBR income tax slabs for the stated fiscal year.
